Body-Mind Centering®. (BMC℠) facilitates self-awareness and a deep understanding of the body that can be applied to any area of self or physical inquiry. Taking BMC work into a performance process, yoga training program or group somatic practice is a way to explore and research embodiment from an anatomical point of view—grounded in the body’s psychophysical and developmental patterns. Classes are developed and evolve in coordination with each client. Class size can be intimate to large-scale.

ISMETA Engaging Embodiment Conference

ISMETA Engaging Embodiment Conference

THE INTERNATIONAL SOMATIC MOVEMENT EDUCATION & THERAPY ASSOCIATION (ISMETA)

ENGAGING EMBODIMENT: Somatic Applications for Health, Education & Social Justice

I’m excited to present at this year’s Engaging Embodiment conference. Organized by ISMETA, this conference brings together more than 80 of the World’s Leading Somatic Movement Professionals to share how our work in Somatic Movement impacts Health, Education, and Social Justice.

Seeing & Being Seen: Body-Mind Centering®, “Race” and Identity through Bones, Blood & Skin
Wednesday, March 3, 11a-12p (PST)
Facilitated by Wendy Hambidge
Conference cost: $100-$150

Class description: Social Justice work requires deep resilience and a grounded sense of self. It requires the capacity to see each person as an individual with their unique history. How are we seeing? How are we being seen?

Utilizing the experiential anatomy intrinsic to BMC℠, this session will offer resources for cultivating the deep self-awareness, resilience, and empathy required to engage with the work and issues within Social Justice. We will broaden our capacity to embrace a diversity of experience by exploring how we sense and perceive. How are we the same and different?

Arrive in the body and on earth through bones, blood, and skin. With this beginning experience as a base, we will explore how we see, and how we feel being seen. How do we show up? How do we show up when we are comfortable? How do we show up when we are not? Group discussion may be incorporated into the process.
————
Conference attendees will explore and learn through in-depth embodied experiences, panel discussions, and roundtable conversations. Whether you are new to somatic movement or an established Registered Somatic Movement Educator or Therapist, we’ve crafted a conference with opportunities to dive deeply into our collective wisdom, nourish our creativity, and honor the tremendous growth of the Somatic Movement profession since ISMETA began in 1988.

If you are unable to attend the entire live event, you can relax in the knowledge that each webinar will be recorded, and the recording will be made available for registrants to enjoy throughout 2021.

Jorge Samuel Faria & Wendy Hambidge

I am pleased to introduce and welcome Jorge Samuel Faria to Portland. Jorge is a collaborator visiting from Brazil. I met Samuel during a residency in Curitiba, Brazil. This meeting instigated him translating a spoken word solo that I performed while there, then into collaboration. We are struck by our commonalities and by our differences and how we engage with our ancestral histories today. Looking back, looking forward, and being with.

I am honored to be able to share what we have developed after approximately 30 hours of collaborating on February 4th.

Jorge Samuel Faria is a movement artist from Brazil. The grandson of the founder of one of the first schools of Samba in Teresòpolis, Brazil (Rio de Janeiro), Jorge grew up surrounded by drums and dancing. Currently, he is a candidate at UNESPAR, in Curitiba, Brazil where he studies dance research and composition. Jorge’s current project Nativo Urbano scientifically examines dance composition and movement analysis using his distinct history and movement style.
